Terms of use

These terms govern your use of Douceia.

1. What the app does. Douceia lets you record meals and how they went down, drinks, activity, weight, the supplements you take and your medical appointments, and note a list of dishes you have in mind; it shows you your own figures back. It is a tracking tool, not a medical device.

2. Age. Douceia is for people aged 18 and over.

3. Your data. Everything you record is stored on your device. There is no account, and no server holds your health data. Barcode scanning sends the scanned code to Open Food Facts to look up the product's values; see the privacy policy.

4. Your responsibility. You decide what to record and what to do with it. Decisions about your health belong to you and your care team.

5. Availability. The app is provided as is, free of charge, with no guarantee of uninterrupted availability.

Privacy policy

What you record in Douceia — your meals and how they went down, your weights, your supplements, your medical appointments, your meal list, your goals, your profile — stays on your phone. This page covers two things: what leaves the device, and what comes into it from elsewhere.

What is stored, and where. Everything you record in the app, of whatever kind, is kept in a database that exists only on this device. There is no account, no synchronisation, and no copy of your health data on our side.

What comes in: data we do not collect from you. Everything the app holds was entered by you, with two exceptions: the nutrition values Open Food Facts reports when you scan a product, which come from that public database rather than from you; and the contents of a backup you choose to restore, described below. If the app ever reads something from another app on your phone — a step count measured by Health Connect or Apple Health, for instance — this section will say so, the feature will be optional, and you will have to allow it explicitly.

Barcode scanning. When you scan a product, its barcode is sent to Open Food Facts, a public non-profit food database, to look up its nutrition values. Only the barcode leaves: not your profile, not your care pathway, not your goals, and not the meal you are adding the product to. A product already looked up is kept on your phone and is not requested again.

Reminders. If you switch a reminder on, the app asks the system to notify you at the scheduled time. A notification is drawn by the system rather than by Douceia: it appears on your lock screen, the system keeps it outside the app, apps allowed to read your notifications can read it, and it may be mirrored to a paired watch or computer. For that reason the text of our reminders never contains anything you recorded: no food, no figure, no supplement, no phase, no practitioner, no place, no appointment date. The appointment reminder only says an appointment is coming up. The app's name is still visible, which we cannot prevent - which is why reminders stay off until you ask for them.

Automatic backups. The app asks the operating system not to include its database in iCloud Backup or in Android Auto Backup, so that your health data is not copied to Apple or Google without your having chosen it.

Backups you make yourself. You can export all of your data to a file at any time and save it wherever you like. The export contains everything the database contains. That file is then yours alone to manage, including if you choose to put it on an online storage service.

Restoring a backup. The first time you open the app, you can restore an exported file - when you change phones, for instance. The file is read on the phone only: nothing is sent anywhere. Its contents are checked before anything is saved, and a file holding a value the app could not have written is refused whole. Your age, the medical disclaimer and these terms are asked for again: they are never taken from the file. Reminders come back switched off, and the app lock needs setting up again. Only the person whose data a file holds should restore it: it is health data.

Usage statistics. Douceia includes no audience measurement tool and no advertising SDK. We know how many people use the app only through the aggregate figures Apple and Google already give us in their developer consoles, which contain nothing about you individually or about your health.

Crash reports. No crash report is sent today. When that is switched on, reports will contain the error, the app version and the device model, and health values will be stripped before anything is sent.

Recipients. Open Food Facts, for the barcodes you scan. That is the only one to date.

Your rights. Because your data is on your device, you exercise your right to portability by exporting it, and your right to erasure by uninstalling the app.
